Combining multi-year, firm-level surveys with countrylevel
panel data for 53 countries, the authors explore the
impact of bank competition on firms’ access to finance.
They find that low competition, as measured by high
values of the Lerner index, diminishes firms’ access to
finance, while commonly-used bank concentration
measures are not robust predictors of firms’ access
to finance. In addition, they find that the impact

چکیده

با ترکیب تحقیقات چند ساله در سطح شرکت با داده های پانلی در سطح کشور 53 کشور محققان را به بهره برداری نمودن از تاثیر رقابت بانکی بر دسترسی شرکتها به سرمایه­گذاری مالی واداشته است. آنها دریافتند که رقابت کم، همانطور که از  طریق مقادیر بالا شاخص لرنرسنجیده می­شود، دسترسی شرکت به سرمایه گذاری مالی را کاهش می­دهد، در حالیکه مقیاسهای تمرکز بانکی که معمولاً به کار برده می­شوند، پیش­بینی های قوی دستیابی شرکت به سرمایه گذاری مالی نمی­باشند. بعلاوه، آنها دریافتند که تاثیر رقابت بر دستیابی به سرمایه گذاری مالی وابسته به محیطی است که بانکها در آن محیط به کار مشغولند. برخی از مشخصه­های محیط مثل توسعه مالی بالاتر و اطلاعات اعتباری بهتر می­توانند تاثیر آسیب رسان رقابت کم را کاهش دهند. اما مشخصه­های دیگر مثل مالکیت بالا بانک دولتی باعث تشدید تأثیر منفی می­شود.
