چکیده انگلیسی:tIntroduction: Many cities around the globe have experienced substantial increases in crack cocaine use.Public health programmes have begun to address crack smoking, primarily through the distribution ofsafer crack use equipment, but their impacts have been limited. More comprehensive safer environmen-tal interventions, specifically safer smoking rooms (SSR), have been implemented only in select Europeancities. However, none have been subjected to rigorous evaluation. This ethnographic study was under-taken at an ‘unsanctioned’ SSR operated by a drug user-led organization in Vancouver, Canada, to explorehow this intervention shaped crack smoking practices, public crack smoking, and related harms.Methods: Ethnographic fieldwork was undertaken at this SSR from September to December 2011, andincluded approximately 50 hours of ethnographic observation and 23 in-depth interviews with peoplewho smoke crack. Data were analyzed by drawing on the ‘Risk Environment’ framework and concepts of‘symbolic’, ‘everyday’, and ‘structural’ violence.Findings: Our findings illustrate how a high demand for SSRs was driven by the need to minimize exposureto policing (structural violence), drug scene violence (everyday violence), and stigma (symbolic vio-lence) that characterized unregulated drug use settings (e.g., public spaces). Although resource scarcityand social norms operating within the local drug scene (e.g., gendered power relations) perpetuatedcrack pipe-sharing within unregulated drug use settings, the SSR fostered harm reduction practices byreshaping the social-structural context of crack smoking and reduced the potential for health harms.Conclusion: Given the significant potential of SSRs in reducing health and social harms, there is an urgentneed to scale up these interventions. Integrating SSRs into public health systems, and supplementingthese interventions with health and social supports, has potential to improve the health and safety ofcrack-smoking populations
چکیده فارسی: بسیاری از شهرستان ها  در سراسر جهان افزایش قابل  توجهی در استفاده از  کاروکائین را تجربه کردند. برنامه بهداشت عمومی جهت ترک سیگار آغار شده است. در درجه ی اول  از طریق توزیع تجهیزات استفاده از ان بوده است. اما اثرات آن محدود می باشد. جوامع بیشتر ملاحظات زیست محیطی امن تر را  به طور خاص اتاق امن سیگار کشیدن(SSR) تنها در شهرستان اروپا اجرا کردند با این حال هیچ کدام تحت ارزیابی دقیق قرار نگرفته اند. این پژوهش به صورت قوم نگارانه به مجوزSSRتوسط یک سازمان کاربر مواد مخدر در ونکوور، کانادا  به کشف چگونگی این مداخله با شیوه های مختلف سیگار کشیدن ترک آن وروش ترک ان پرداخته است. مواد وروش های کار  به صورت قوم نگاری میدانی از سپتامبر تا دسامبر2011 بوده است.  که حدود 50 ساعت و از 23 نفر سیگاری مصاحبه شده است.
